i went to india alone to work on the 'our diaspora' project. i was constantly on guard, because i was told to be, as a woman traveling alone. i don't think that was necessary. it was a lonely trip, although i was blown away by the kindness of strangers and those i was photographing and interviewing. i had the great company of animals, frequently. there was so much beauty; the obvious kind and the surprising kind that sneaks up on you.
