protesting gold
The residents of Na Nong Bong, a small farming community in Northeastern Thailand (commonly known as Isaan) are angry. They believe that the goldmine situated above their community is contaminating their crops and drinking water. Villagers complain of health issues including chronic headaches, eye pain, blackouts, vertigo, and abnormal rashes. And they are taking action. They have placed concrete pillars across the road that the company uses to transfer rocks containing ore and chemicals to the processing factory, effectively shutting down the mine. Tungkum Ltd is now taking the village to court, where they are standing strong and fighting for their home.
