Women's roller derby has been around for quite some time, but lately has been experiencing a renaissance. The Carolina Rollergirls, who's all star team is currently ranked 68 out of 267 in the country, has a devoted team of women of all ages. The team members keep the team afloat; they pay to join (after a long tryout process!) and volunteer time outside of that. They also practice 3-4 times a week, and all have full time jobs outside of derby. The women have a strong local following, and are proud of the way they can represent female empowerment, athleticism, and strength. The team is also proudly LGBT friendly.
